Julie Edgar is a Sydney based artist whose landscape painting practice explores the complex relationship between perception, consciousness, and the ever-changing moments of the ephemeral, ethereal and the transient. Drawing from the philosophical framework of phenomenology, her paintings evoke a deeply immersive emotional and sensory experience of the landscape.

Inspired by the beaches and waters of Pittwater and the Hawkesbury, Julie’s work is an emotional and intuitive response to the natural world. Her landscape paintings are reductive, pared back and minimal pictorial observations of place that inhabit a space between realism and abstraction. They aim to allude to the familiar while withholding and conveying the emotional experience of being immersed in a space that is ambiguous and strange, creating a sense of mystery and inviting viewers to engage with the deeper, often unseen connections that bind us to the landscapes we inhabit.
